1.    Try to vary your swimming styles. Did you know that when you vary swimming styles, you would burn more calories? An effective way to lose weight is to alternate between intensive and less intensive swimming styles. For instance, you can do 3 laps of butterfly or freestyle and follow this up with 1 lap of backstroke or breaststroke. Doing so allows your heart rate to increase and decrease alternatively, thereby, helping you burn more calories effectively.

2.    Don’t eat too much after swimming. If you really want to lose weight, try to watch your appetite after swimming. Some swimmers feel hungry after swimming so try to avoid big meals which would put back those calories you just lost.

3.    Increase your speed. Just like running and other sports, increasing your speed will help you burn more calories. So the next time you swim, try to check and assess how fast you complete a lap. Then try to improve your speed next time.

4.    Start slow and then build up your routine. You can start slow with 2-3 swimming sessions in a week. Eventually, you can build up this routine with 4-5 sessions a week until 7-8 sessions. Doing so would help you lose more weight in the process.

5.    Be consistent. Some people find it hard to lose weight because they are not that persistent. When you swim, make it a point that you are consistent with your workout. You can join a group of friends who enjoy swimming so that you would find it more fun and exciting.
